Mediation is a process whereby a neutral and impartial third person (the mediator) acts to encourage and facilitate the resolution of a dispute without prescribing what it should be.

The Fifteenth Judicial Circuit's Alternative Dispute Resolution Office (ADRO) utilizes certified mediators who assist the parties to reach a mutually acceptable agreement. The court program's mediators mediate family, juvenile dependency, and county court matters.

In family cases, mediation conducted by staff of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit costs nothing for litigants who have been found indigent, to $60 or $120 per person, per mediation session, depending upon the combined income of the parties. If the combined income of the parties exceeds $100,000 annually, the parties will be required to obtain mediator services from an independent mediator.

Juvenile dependency mediations are provided without cost to the litigants by the ADR Office mediators.

For County Court small claims cases (cases which are $5,000 or less), there is no charge to the litigants for the mediation.
