Frequently Asked Questions

for Supervised Timesharing

When can I see my child(ren)?
It usually takes about a month from the time we receive the court order.  Both parties must complete an orientation process.

Will I have to see the other parent?

No.  That is the one of the main purposes of our program.  The Home parent and Away parent come at separate times to avoid contact.

Is there a cost?

The cost is between $15.00 and $25.00 per Time Sharing, which may be split by the parties, paid by one party or waived by the judge.

Where is the Supervised Time Sharing held?

At the Main Judicial Complex.

Is it safe?

Yes.  The parent attending the Time Sharing, children, and observers must go through court security.  At least one Deputy Sheriff is always present when Family Connections is in operation.

How do I get into the program?

Participation is by court order ONLY.

How often can I have Time Sharing with the children?

The judge will determine whether the time sharing is every weekend or every other weekend, Saturday and/or Sunday.

Can we have Time Sharing during the week?

No.  The program only operates Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, every weekend.  The program is closed only on a major holiday.

Is the Time Sharing video taped?

No.  Observers take notes during the time sharing.

Can I get copies of the notes?

Yes.  Call Family Connection for the policy.

Do all families get an observer?

Yes.  Each family is assigned one or more observers, depending on the number of children involved.  Time Sharing is Sight and Sound Supervised, meaning that an observer is with the family at all times throughout the time sharing, taking detailed notes about what is said and done.

Who observes the Time Sharing?

Applicants MUST have some prior experience working with children and have some knowledge/training in the major areas impacting child welfare (i.e., child abuse/neglect, child development, substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc).

Observers must have a college degree in a related field, and/or job related experience. All observers complete their initial training, with annual ongoing education.  They must complete a thorough back ground check.

Can we leave the building?

No.  One of the purposes of our program is to ensure the safety and well-being of the child(ren).  There is an enclosed outdoor patio area available.  We also offer a Mini-Monitored Exchange program for that purpose.

Can I bring other family members?

No.  Unless they are listed on the court order.

How long do we have Time Sharing this way?

Normally, the duration is 6 months unless otherwise stipulated by the judge.  After 6 months, you can request the Court to review your case.

What if I'm sick, out of town or on vacation?

You must notify Family Connections immediately, due to the cost involved in appropriate staffing.  There are no excused absences unless noted in the court order.
